About The Artist

Nerd Zoo was started by Julie, just another nerd who loved to draw and make people happy. In pursuit of her dreams, Julie spent much of her time doing medical mission trips while pursuing a career in medicine and health care. At the low end of the totem-pole, surround by talented doctors and pharmacist, she found that although she did not yet have the credentials to treat patients she could still do a lot of good with the skills she possessed. She found herself sitting with locals for hours just drawing sketches and cartoons for the children to take with them while they waited to see the doctor. These experiences further grew her nerdy nature to doodle and sketch the world around her.

Time passed by, Julie continued a career pursuing making patients healthy, but the idea that art could also spread joy did not go away. Nerd Zoo was born out of those simple sketches in a sketch book. With each animal drawing the interest grew, a team was developed, and we realized that we could do more together.

How It’s Going…

Since the beginning, we have made Nerd Zoo shirts, mugs, bags, posters, jewelry, etc. Nerd Zoo shirts have been worn in schools across the country teaching the message to “stick your neck out” and stand up for what’s right. Nerd Zoo shirts have been worn across the globe to run races, go on safaris, and visit the Eifel Tower, spreading joy everywhere. Nerd Zoo has been able to donate funds to several missions and continue to work in the communities that we live.
